3. MULTIPLICATION OF CIGARS
The performer shows a cigar in his right hand, holding it upright by the pointed end. He takes it with his left hand and puts it in his pocket. With the right hand he catches another cigar from the air; this also is put in his left pocket.
The production of cigars is continued ad libitum and finally a distribution of cigars is made, or the pocket is shown to be empty.
To produce this effect you require two cigars: one you show openly in the right hand, held upright by the point between the tips of the thumb and forefinger; the other you have finger palmed in the left hand. Take the visible cigar with the left hand and, as the hands meet in front of the body, bring the tips of the two middle fingers together; press on the point of the cigar with the right middle finger, at the same time releasing the other end from the left palm, and tilt the cigar back into the right hand, which seizes it in the finger palm position (Fig. 8). Put the visible cigar in the left coat pocket and as soon as the left hand is out of sight take the cigar in the finger palm again. Bring the hand out of the pocket with its back to the front, ready for a repetition of the moves.

Reach out to the left with the right hand and produce the palmed cigar; to do this, bend the fingers slightly, grip the point of the cigar between the tips of the first and second fingers, put the tip of the thumb under the end of , the cigar and press upwards. Almost the whole length of the cigar should then be visible above the first finger and at right angles to it. The moves can be repeated as often as you wish, but six or seven catches will be enough.
If you have loaded a number of cigars in your pocket beforehand, you can distribute them after the last catch; but if not, then simply palm the cigars and prove that the whole thing was an illusion by showing the pocket empty.
