2. THE PURSE PRODUCTION
A little preparation is necessary. In your left outside coat pocket put two small snap purses, one unprepared and the other with a slit in the bottom into which you push the point of a cigar. In the right-hand coat pocket, or in a holder under the coat, place a second cigar.
Patter about a special brand of cigar that has a lot of rubber in it and offer to show a sample. With your left hand bring out the purse and the cigar, hiding the latter with the fingers. Open the purse, seize the point of the cigar with the right hand and pull it out with a twisting movement.
Turn to the left and offer the cigar for inspection, at the same time dropping the purse into the left coat pocket and taking the unprepared one. Take the cigar back, open the purse, push the cigar into it; hold both in the left hand and turn to the right to have both examined by a spectator on that side, seizing the opportunity to steal the second cigar.
Face the spectators and hold the purse in the left hand. Open it with the right hand, the back of the hand to the front; push the end of the palmed cigar inside and then apparently extract it, with the same twisting movement you applied to the first one. In reality you grip the end that is inside the purse with the left hand on the outside and then slide the fingers and thumb of the right hand along the cigar to the end, finally pulling it away with a little jerk. Both purse and cigar can then be handed out for inspection.
