4. THE THUMB PALM

This is a very easy hold, the coin being perpendicular to the palm and gripped in the fold at the base of the thumb by the pressure of the latter against the first finger. The coin must not pass behind the hand, and the tip of the thumb must be separated from the first finger.

To place the coin in the thumb palm, hold it between the tips of the thumb and first finger, the tip of the first finger resting on its upper edge; push the coin downwards with the first finger, making it slide along the thumb and supporting it with the second finger underneath until it reaches the fork of the thumb.

Grip it there by pressing the base of the thumb inwards and at once extend the fingers (Fig. 6).

With very little practice this palm can be made with extreme rapidity. The coin can be transferred to the regular palm or the finger palm by simply releasing the thumb pressure and letting the coin fall into the hollow of the hand or the bend of the middle fingers.
