2. THE FINGER PALM

image

In this case the ball is held against the palm of the hand with the second, third, and fourth fingers, the forefinger being stretched out. To place the ball in this position, grip a small portion of the surface between the thumb and forefinger (Fig. 2) , extend the other three fingers over the ball, grip it with the tips of the second and third fingers, close the last three fingers and carry the ball against the palm of the hand—holding it there by the pressure of these fingers, which retain their grip on the ball. The thumb and the forefinger remain stretched out.

To use this method of palming to vanish a ball, take it between the thumb and forefinger of the right hand and show it. Move the right hand toward the left hand, held palm upwards; place the ball at the roots of the left fingers and close them slowly. As soon as they hide it, grip it with the tips of the right second and third fingers; close them, carrying the ball against the palm of the hand. Retain it there by pressure of these fingers and at the same moment complete the closing of the left fingers on the right thumb and forefinger, now empty. Withdraw the thumb and then slowly pull away the forefinger (Fig. 3).
