4. THE PASSAGE OF A THIMBLE THROUGH A HANDKERCHIEF

Show the right hand with a thimble on the tip of the forefinger, the other three fingers being bent into the palm. Take a handkerchief by the middle, the corners hanging down, and put it over the right hand so that its middle will rest on the tip of the forefinger; but as soon as the right hand is hidden, thumb palm the thimble and rapidly extend the finger again to receive the handkerchief on it. Stroke the fabric over the forefinger with the left hand and draw it a little over the finger, so that the greater part falls to the front. As you pass the left hand down it second time, insert the tip of the right second fin-ger into the thimble; extend the finger and push the thimble into the thumb crotch of the left hand, which carries it away (Fig. 16).
Stroke the forefinger of the right hand once more and leave the thimble from the left thumb crotch on the tip of the right forefinger outside the handkerchief.
