Be Deceived is an extremely rare booklet on card magic; which sells for over $100 a copy on antiquarian book sites. Self-published by Louis Lam, a Jewish magician, in Amsterdam in 1939 shortly after World War II began; Be Deceived contains an array of unusual card magic; including several reputation-building presentations. A partner of Hank Vermeyden, Lam co-founded the Dutch magic magazine, TRIKS; which was published from 1941 until 1943. Tragically, Louis Lam perished in the Holocaust after being transferred to Sobibor concentration camp in Poland.
