DESCRIPTION

Barnard Samuel Lerner aka "Bobby Bernard" was one of the early proponents of close-up magic in the United Kingdom. In this rare set of notes from his lecture at the 1958 IBM Convention in Buffalo, NY, Bernard shares his personal insights and advice, as well as performance guidelines for the emerging field of close-up magic. This lecture also includes descriptions for over a dozen novel effects and ideas, some offbeat by today's standards. Tricks with explanations include an effect where the identity of a freely selected card appears burned into a matchhead after it is blown out, Bernard's direct handling for Three Coins Across, an effect where an ungimmicked wind-up toy frog finds a spectator's card, an interesting DIY coin producer / vanisher, and more. Introduction by Val Andrews. 15 pages.
